1. A wireless network access device comprising:a processor;
a radio interface comprising a plurality of individually addressable radio paths terminating in a corresponding plurality of connectors, each radio path for providing a connection from the processor to a corresponding radio module;
one or more radio modules engaged with corresponding connectors from the plurality of connectors;
a network interface configured to provide access to a data network; wherein
the processor is configured to manage communications between the client devices that communicate with the one or more radio modules and the data network via the radio interface and the network interface,
each of the one or more radio modules is selected from a group of at least two different radio module types operable in the wireless network access device,
each radio module type of the group of at least two different radio module types is configured to engage with any of the plurality of connectors and to operate independently of other radio modules present in the wireless access device, and
each radio module type of the at least two radio module types differs from the other radio module types in at least one of a plurality of wireless radio communication characteristics.
