Claim of US Patent No. 11,032,797

1. A method for transmitting broadcast signals by an apparatus, the method comprising:formatting a stream to output PLP (Physical Layer Pipe) data including a data packet, wherein the stream includes at least one null packet and TS (Transport Stream) packets, wherein the formatting further includes:
deleting the at least one null packet, and
removing a sync byte from each TS packet,
wherein a number of the deleted at least one null packet is counted,
wherein the number of the deleted at least one null packet is identified based on at least one of a first field and a second field in the data packet that carries the TS packets,
wherein, when a counted value is equal to or less than a predetermined value, the number of the deleted at least one null packet is indicated by the first field,
wherein, when the counted value is greater than the predetermined value, the number of the deleted at least one null packet is indicated by the first field and the second field;
FEC (Forward Error Correction) encoding the PLP data;
bit interleaving the FEC encoded PLP data;
mapping the bit interleaved PLP data onto constellations;
time interleaving the mapped PLP data;
encoding physical layer signaling information including parameters necessary to decode the PLP data;
building at least one signal frame including the time interleaved PLP data and the encoded physical layer signaling information;
modulating data in the at least one signal frame by an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) scheme; and
transmitting the broadcast signals having the modulated data.
