In a modular food holding bin having a plurality of individually addressable and individually controllable food holding units, a computer-implemented method of detecting and controlling the food holding units, the method comprising:transmitting an interrogation message on a line conductor that extends between a controller and a first physical location of a plurality of physical locations in the modular holding bin, wherein a corresponding food holding unit is located at the first physical location and receives the interrogation message;
in response to receiving the interrogation message, the corresponding food holding unit transmitting an address request message onto a first bus, the first bus extending from a master controller of the modular holding bin to the plurality of physical locations in the modular holding bin, the first bus being a multi-master, multi-point communication protocol bus, the address request messaging being transmitted on the first bus to the master controller;
determining, at the master controller, an address assignment for the corresponding food holding unit at the first physical location, in response to receiving the address request message at the master controller; and
transmitting an address assignment message to the corresponding food holding unit at the first physical location, the address assignment message being transmitted onto the first bus by the master controller, and enabling the corresponding food holding unit at the first physical location to thereafter selectively communicate with the master controller.

1. A method of detecting keepalives being used by a mobile application on a mobile device, comprising:monitoring a plurality of data transfers over a network to and from the mobile application;
analyzing one or more characteristics of a data transfer to identify a pattern indicating that the data transfer may include a keepalive,
wherein the characteristics of the data transfer include the amount of time elapsed between the data transfer and a previous data transfer, and the pattern is identified based on a variance in the amount of time elapsed between the data transfer and previous data transfers being less than a threshold;
detecting a keepalive based on the identified pattern;
maintaining a record of the detected keepalives;
reporting the detected keepalives to a server; and
performing keepalive optimization based on the detected keepalives.

A method for providing application services to a user in a communications network, the method comprising:mapping, by a gateway network element including at least one processor, a first multi-path transport control protocol (MPTCP) flow to a first evolved packet system (EPS) bearer associated with a first serving base station for the user, using a first n-tuple traffic flow template (TFT) packet filter for the user, n being greater than or equal to 1;
mapping, by the gateway network element, a second MPTCP flow to a second EPS bearer associated with a second serving base station for the user, each of the first and second MPTCP flows corresponding to a same MPTCP connection for an application, using a second n-tuple TFT packet filter for the user;
outputting, by the gateway network element, the first MPTCP flow on the first EPS bearer for delivery to the user through the first serving base station; and
outputting, by the gateway network element, the second MPTCP flow on the second EPS bearer for delivery to the user through the second serving base station,
wherein each of the first and second MPTCP flows is associated with a single IP address assigned to the user.

based on the network topology information, identifying whether a packet forwarding path through the first and second clusters of client switches from the source end host to the destination end host is known;
in response to identifying that the packet forwarding path is known, forming a controller-generated ARP reply with the controller and providing the controller-generated ARP reply to the source end host through a given client switch in the first cluster of client switches; and
