1. A reader comprising:a scanning head that comprises an optical sensor to capture an indicia that encodes data and a processor to interpret the indicia to decode the data; and
an elongate handle connected at a first end to the scanning head and graspable to orient the optical sensor toward the indicia, wherein the elongate handle comprises:
a first handle receiving coil disposed at a second end of the elongate handle opposite the first end, and oriented parallel to a first side of the elongate handle;
a second handle receiving coil disposed at the second end, and oriented parallel to a second side of the elongate handle that is opposite the first side of the elongate handle; and
a battery to provide electric power to the processor and the optical sensor, and configured to be recharged via the first and second handle receiving coils, wherein:
the second end of the elongate handle is configured to be releasably connected to a presentation base;
the presentation base is configured to support the reader atop a support surface in a presentation scanning mode that orients the optical sensor to capture the indicia on an object;
the presentation base comprises:
a first base transmitting coil configured to be oriented parallel to the first handle receiving coil and to transmit electric power to the first handle receiving coil when the presentation base is releasably connected to the second end of the elongate handle; and
a second base transmitting coil configured to be oriented parallel to the second handle receiving coil and to transmit electric power to the second handle receiving coil when the presentation base is releasably connected to the second end of the elongate handle; and
the presentation base comprises a base receiving coil configured to receive electric power wirelessly transmitted to the presentation base by a pad transmitting coil of a charging pad and to convey the wirelessly received electric power to the first and second base transmitting coils to be transmitted to the first and second handle receiving coils, respectively, when the presentation base is supported atop the charging pad as the support surface in the presentation mode.

A pressure-regulating valve having an electrical control unit, comprising:the pressure-regulating valve and the electrical control unit being mutually and directly mechanically connected by a first plug connector configured to be directly fastened together without a transmission cable, wherein the electrical control unit controls the pressure-regulating valve by a micro-controller and by at least one electronic switch using a regulated current signal;
the electrical control unit includes the micro-controller, the at least one electronic switch, a second plug connector and a third plug connector;
wherein electrical energy is supplied to the electrical control unit by way of the second plug connector and a signal-carrying connection is produced to a remote higher-priority controller or to a set-point generator; and
wherein the third plug connector connects the electrical control unit to (i) at least one remote bus-compatible electrical devices or (ii) a second remote pressure-regulating valve without a dedicated electrical control unit;
wherein the electrical control unit, forwards signals and also the electrical energy by way of the third plug connector to control (i) the second remote pressure-regulating valve by the micro-controller and by at least one additional electronic switch using the regulated current signal or (ii) the at least one remote bus-compatible electrical devices;
wherein the electrical control unit includes two printed circuit boards, of which one comprises the micro-controller and another comprises the electronic switches for higher electrical currents.

A method of creating a prosthetic tooth to be placed on a dental implant installed in a patient's mouth, comprising:receiving, at a computer, scan data that includes information about a location of the dental implant installed in the patient's mouth, the scan data being derived from a scan of an impression of at least a portion of the patient's mouth;
by use of graphical design software associated with the computer, developing a virtual model of at least a portion of the patient's mouth from the scan data, the virtual model being displayed on a display associated with the computer;
by use of the graphical design software, developing a first data set to be used in fabricating a rapid-prototype physical model of the at least a portion of the patient's mouth that will have a receptacle in which an implant analog structure is to be positioned at a location corresponding to the location of the dental implant installed in the patient's mouth, the implant analog structure having features corresponding to the installed dental implant;
by use of the graphical design software, developing a second data set to be used in fabricating a custom dental abutment that is for placement on the dental implant installed in the patient's mouth, the custom dental abutment being a part of the prosthetic tooth; and
fabricating, by use of the first data set, the rapid-prototype physical model having the implant analog structure in the receptacle to be mated with the custom dental abutment in creating the prosthetic tooth.

encrypting, at one of a plurality of pass-through connectors, outgoing data that is moving through a cloud gateway en route from a proxy server to one of the plurality of cloud service providers, responsive to a data write request associated with a first user, the encrypting in accordance to one of the plurality of rules as related to the first user,
wherein the plurality of pass-through connectors includes a first pass-through connector that is coupled to the proxy server and associated to a first cloud service provider and has a first encryption/decryption module, and a second pass-through connector that is coupled to the proxy server and associated to a second cloud service provider and has a second encryption/decryption module, there being in the cloud gateway one pass-through connector per cloud service provider,
wherein the first encryption/decryption module and the second encryption/decryption module are implemented in hardware, firmware, software executing on a processor or combination thereof; and
decrypting, at one of the plurality of pass-through connectors, incoming data that is moving through the cloud gateway en route from one of the plurality of cloud service providers to the server, responsive to a data read request associated with a second user, the decrypting in accordance to one of the plurality of rules as related to the second user,
wherein the incoming data includes padding information and encryption status; and
wherein, the encrypting includes encrypting an outgoing file via application of a first key in accordance with the one of the plurality of rules, encrypting the first key or a key name of the first key and file information via application of a master key, and combining the encrypted file and the encrypted first key or key name and file information as the encrypted outgoing data.

memory storing program instructions; and
a processor communicatively coupled to the face imager, the camera, the illuminator device, the electronic video display, the input device, and the memory, and further communicatively coupled to a database storing a reference iris image, the processor executing the program instructions to:
receive an input signal from the input device detecting the presence of a human face in a capture zone defined at least in part by the field of view;
responsive to detection of the human face in the capture zone:
align the camera with the iris of the person;
send a first control signal to the illuminator device, the first control signal activating a synchronous emission of light by the one or more illuminators;
send a second control signal to the camera, the second control signal activating a capture of a plurality of digital images by the camera, the capture being synchronous with the synchronous emission of light;
receive the plurality of digital images from the camera;
access the database to:
retrieve the reference iris image;
determine a demographic characteristic or preference of the person; and
find personalized electronic advertising content specific to the person, the electronic advertising content being associated with the demographic characteristic or preference of the person;
determine that a first digital image of the plurality of digital images matches the reference iris image, wherein the first digital image is a low resolution image selected from a plurality of resolutions, and wherein determining the match comprises selecting a low frequency component corresponding to said low resolution image, said low resolution image and said low frequency component being the lowest sufficient to identify coarse iris features; and
display the plurality of personalized electronic advertising content.

the spring further shaped to extend a second end of the spring into a cavity formed in the spring mount, the cavity being of a size that allows the second end to move freely, without causing substantial tension build up in the spring, in a direction that allows the temple section to fold in a direction that closes the temple against the front frame.

select a public key for the authenticator based on a key identifier specified in the payload data of the ticket,
decrypt the signature of the ticket by applying the public key to the ticket to provide a decrypted signature,
validate the ticket provided in a request from the requestor to access the given resource according to validation parameters stored in the payload data, and
grant the requestor access to the given resource in response to validating the ticket.
