SHORT-STRING PARALLEL-DC OPTIMIZER FOR PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS

Zyntony, Inc., Sandy, UT...

1. A system comprising:a first plurality of separate solar panels that is connected in a series electrical connection, wherein each one of the separate solar panels in the first plurality of separate solar panels shares a consistent azimuth angle;
a second plurality of separate solar panels that is connected in a series electrical connection, wherein each one of the separate solar panels in the second plurality of separate solar panels shares a consistent azimuth angle that is different from the azimuth angle of the first plurality of separate solar panels;
one or more solar panels positioned to be shaded during at least a portion of a day;
a first short-string optimizer separate from the first plurality of solar panels connected in series with the first plurality of solar panels;
a second short-string optimizer separate from the second plurality of solar panels connected in series with the second plurality of solar panels; and
a third short-string optimizer connected in series with the one or more solar panels,
wherein the first short-string optimizer, the second short-string optimizer, and the third short-string optimizer are connected in parallel and output direct current electricity generated by the first plurality of separate solar panels, the second plurality of solar panels, and the one or more solar panels to a direct current bus.
