wherein, following blood and blood gas sampling when attached to a needless syringe, the retractable needle is retracted by
shifting the frontal attachment laterally relative to the connector housing until the retractable needle is aligned with a
needle retraction cavity inside the needle retraction chamber, which also shifts the filter plug into alignment with the connector
body to prevent leakage of blood out of the medical device while permitting excess air to be expelled through the filter plug
by advancing the plunger of the needleless syringe relative to the filter plug following needle retraction.
