formed in different surfaces of the terminal block such that the first latch detecting switch and the second latch detecting
switch are stacked and held in the terminal block axially of the latch, wherein the first turning position is a half-latch
position where the latch slightly engages with the striker, and the second turning position is a full-latch position where
the latch completely engages with the striker; and

a ratchet detecting switch that can detect a turning position of the ratchet, the terminal block having a ratchet-detecting-switch
holding portion that holds the ratchet detecting switch with an elastic claw;

the terminal block having an elongated central portion configured for being fixed to the base member,
wherein said elongated central portion of the terminal block is over the striker-engagement groove and extends along a longitudinal
direction of the striker-engagement groove; and

the first and second latch-detecting-switch holding portions are formed in the terminal block at one side of the elongated
central portion and the striker-engagement groove, and the ratchet-detecting-switch holding portion is formed in the terminal
block at an opposite side of the elongated central portion and the striker-engagement groove.

to normal rotation of the motor for opening the motor and is not applied to reverse rotation of the motor for closing the

wherein, when the door is within a fully-open-position-adjacent open range that is adjacent to a fully-open position of the
door, the control unit performs fully-open-position-adjacent turning control by which the regenerative braking is applied
to normal rotation for opening the motor and is not applied to reverse rotation for closing the door,

wherein, when the door is within a fully-closed-position-adjacent open range that is adjacent to a fully-closed position of
the door, the control unit performs fully-closed-position-adjacent turning control by which the regenerative braking is not
applied to the normal rotation for opening the motor and is applied to the reverse rotation of the motor for closing the door,

wherein the control unit comprises a plurality of switches which are turned to enable the motor to rotate normally based on
an opening order of the control switch and to enable the motor to rotate reversely based on a closing order of the control
switch, the regenerative brake circuit includes a diode enabling an electric current to pass through only in one direction,
and the electric current caused by a counter electromotive force generated by rotation of the motor flows,

wherein the plurality of switches are turned such that an electric current caused by a counter electromotive force generated
by the normal rotation of the motor flows in a forward direction and an electric current caused by a counter electromotive
force generated by the reverse rotation of the motor flows in a reverse direction along the diode when the door is within
the fully-open-position-adjacent open range by stopping power supply to the motor, and such that an electric current caused
by a counter electromotive force generated by the normal rotation of the motor flows in a reverse direction along the diode
and an electric current caused by a counter electromotive force generated by the reverse rotation of the motor flows in the
forward direction along the diode,

wherein, when the door is within an intermediate open range between the fully-closed-position-adjacent open range and the
fully-open-position-adjacent open range, the control unit performs intermediate turning control by which the regenerative
braking is not applied to the normal rotation or the reverse rotation of the motor,

wherein an on/off switch connected to the motor in series in the plurality of switches closes the regenerative brake circuit
when the door is within the fully-open-position-adjacent open range or the fully-closed-position-adjacent open range, and
the on/off switch opens the regenerative brake circuit when the door is within the intermediate open range; and

wherein the control circuit increases the fully-closed-position adjacent open range and the fully-open-position-adjacent open
range based on the temperature detected by the temperature sensor and the angle of the vehicle detected by the vehicle-tilt
sensor.

a lift lever operatively connected to the locking lever and having a releasing portion;

an outside lever operated by an outside handle and connected to the lift lever;
wherein when the locking lever is in the unlocking position the lift lever is in an unlocked state and is moveable by the
outside lever to a position where the releasing portion of the lift lever abuts the released portion of the opening lever
to disengage the ratchet from the latch and to permit the vehicle door to open when the outside handle is operated, and

wherein when the locking lever is in the locking position the lift lever is in a locked state in which the lift lever is in
a position that prevents the releasing portion of the lift lever to abut the released portion of the opening lever to prevent
the vehicle door from opening even when the outside handle is operated.

a motion-transmitting member coupled to an outside handle on an outer panel of the door;
a second outside lever comprising an engagement projection and an elongate hole,
wherein the second outside lever is pivotally mounted on the pivot shaft through the elongate hole such that the elongate
hole extends transversely relative to the vehicle and an inner end of the elongate hole is in contact with the pivot shaft
during usual operation of the vehicle door latch device so as to allow the second outside lever to move toward an inside of
the vehicle in the event of a crash, an outer end of the second outside lever being connected to an outside handle via the
motion-transmitting member so that the second outside lever turns in a releasing direction for disengaging the engagement
portion from the striker with operation of the outside handle during usual operation of the vehicle door latch device;

a torsion spring mounted to the base member so as to surround the pivot shaft and comprising two arms,
wherein a first arm of the two arms engages with the first outside lever so as to bias the first outside lever and the second
outside lever such that the engagement projection of the second outside lever is in contact with the first outside lever,
and a second arm of the two arms engages with the base member and the engagement projection of the second outside lever to
bias the engagement projection of the second outside lever into contact with the first outside lever;

a release lever connected to an inner end of the first outside lever and configured to disengage the engagement portion from
the striker when the outside handle is operated during usual operation of the vehicle door latch device; and

a bolt that passes through the pivot shaft to firmly connect the back member to the base member,
wherein, during usual operation of the vehicle door latch device, a rotation of the second outside lever in the releasing
direction is transmitted to the first outside lever such that the engagement portion is disengaged from the striker by the
release lever, and when an external force from a crash is applied to the second outside lever, the second outside lever moves
toward the inside of the vehicle along a width of the vehicle against a force of the torsion spring until an outer end of
the elongate hole, opposite to the inner end, comes in contact with the pivot shaft to enable the engagement projection of
the second outside lever to come out of contact with the first outside lever, thereby preventing a rotation of the second
outside lever in the releasing direction from being transmitted to the first outside lever.

a release lever configured to rotate around the first shaft to transmit the ratchet release operation force to the latch unit and including a release slot extending in a radial direction from the first shaft;
a clutch pin inserted into the opening and the release slot; and
a first disengagement lever including an arc slot into which the clutch pin is inserted, the arc slot extending in the circumferential direction of the first shaft, the first disengagement lever being configured to rotate around a second shaft to move the clutch pin, which is engaged with the arc slot, in the release slot of the release lever in the radial direction of the first shaft by the operation of the slide lever,
