wherein the locking mechanism comprises a first locking member and a second locking member, the first and second locking members
being carried by the actuator unit, the first locking member configured to move in a first radial direction from a retracted
position to a first radially extended position, the second locking member configured to move in a second radial direction
from a retracted position to a second radially extended position different from the first radial direction; and

wherein each of the first and second locking members comprises an aperture having a camming surface, and wherein the actuator
unit comprises a locking bar extending through the apertures and operatively coupled to a lock actuator in one of the inside
and outside knobs, configured so that when the lock actuator is actuated, the locking bar engages the camming surfaces so
as to urge the first and second locking members into their respective first and second radially extended positions.

with the locking member, the control arm having a lock portion configured so that when the locking member is in the locked
position the lock portion blocks the second retractor arm from rotating sufficient to engage the retractor contact surface;

wherein the first retractor arm is not blocked from rotation when the locking member is in the locked position; and
wherein the control arm is configured so that when the retractor is moved by the first retractor arm when the locking member
is in the locked position, the moving retractor engages a control surface that is attached to the locking member so as to
urge the locking member from the locked position toward the unlocked position.

flange so that it can be selectively positioned in a first configuration in which the lug ends are engaged with the first
seat surfaces or in a second configuration in which the lug ends are engaged with the second seat surfaces, and when the adjustment
member is in the first configuration it is rotatably and axially spaced apart from when it is in the second configuration;

wherein when the adjustment member is in the first configuration the first mount plate engages the adjustment member blocking
surface at a first distance from the first flange; and

wherein when the adjustment member is in the second configuration the first mount plate engages the adjustment member blocking
surface at a second distance from the first flange.

(c) sliding the closer housing of the replacement door closer assembly through the first mounting bracket such that a portion of the closer housing moves away from the first mounting bracket;
(d) sliding the closer housing such that the portion of the closer housing moves back toward the first mounting bracket;
(e) fixing a second mounting bracket to the mounting surface through a second pre-existing mounting hole in the mounting surface;
(f) positioning the closer housing by sliding the closer housing between a first securing portion of the first mounting bracket and a second securing portion of the second mounting bracket, the first and second securing portions being configured for gripping the closer housing; and
(g) securing the closer housing to the first and second mounting brackets at a final position.

wherein as the retractor moves in the opening direction, an edge surface of the retractor engages a control surface that is attached to the locking member, the control surface disposed at an angle oblique to the opening direction so that as the edge surface moves in the opening direction, the edge surface engages and slides over the control surface, pushing the control surface and locking member toward the unlocked position;
wherein actuating the first handle moves the locking member from the locked position to the unlocked position.

mechanism being aligned with a lock receiver of the mounting unit when the actuator unit is in the neutral position; and

wherein the receiver is configured to receive the locking mechanism when the locking mechanism is aligned with the receiver
and is in the radially extended position so that when the locking mechanism is received by the receiver the actuator unit
is prevented from moving both rotationally and axially relative to the mounting unit.

advancing the retractor assembly housing through a door mount hole so that the first mount plate engages a first door surface at and adjacent the door mount hole;
advancing a second mount plate over the retractor assembly housing so that the second mount plate engages a second door surface opposite the first door surface; and
connecting the first mount plate and second mount plate so that the retractor assembly housing is supported within the door mount hole.
