ELECTROLUMINESCENT DISPLAYS AND LIGHTING

DST INNOVATIONS LIMITED, ...

1. A double-sided electroluminescent element arranged to emit light in mutually opposite directions, wherein the electroluminescent
element comprises:
i. a central common substrate,
ii. a non planar electroluminescent material layer formed on both sides of the substrate, and
iii. a transparent or translucent cover layer on either side of the electroluminescent material layer, through which light
is output;
wherein the electroluminescent material layer is arranged on one or both sides of the substrate to emit ultraviolet light,
the element further including an ultraviolet reactive layer arranged to emit visible light.

DISPLAY ELEMENTS

DST Innovations Limited, ...

1. A display element, comprising an electrically actuable element arranged to provide visual, touch-sensitive and tactile
functions, comprising:
a substrate;
a substantially transparent, flexible display surface; and
the electrically actuable element disposed between the substrate and the display surface within a cell containing substantially
opaque fluid, and electrically actuable so as to vary a separation between a portion of the electrically actuable element
and the display surface and thereby vary a thickness of fluid therebetween so as to change a display state of the display
element;

wherein the electrically actuable element is arranged to sense pressure on the display surface when brought into contact therewith;
and

wherein the portion of the electrically actuable element is arranged to be brought into proximity or contact with the display
surface so as to distort the display surface to provide tactile output.

ELECTROLUMINESCENT ELEMENTS AND METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION

DST Innovations Limited, ...

1. An electroluminescent element, comprising at least the following layers, in sequence:i. a first substrate,
ii. a first conductive layer,
iii. a first dielectric layer,
iv. a first light emitting layer,
v. a second conductive layer,
vi. a second light emitting layer,
vii. a second dielectric layer,
viii. a third conductive layer, and
ix. a second substrate;
wherein at least one of the first and second substrates is transparent or translucent, at least one of the first and third conductive layers is transparent or translucent, and at least one of the first and second dielectric layers is transparent or translucent, so as to allow light from the first and/or second light emitting layers to be emitted through the transparent substrate or substrates; and
the second conductive layer is completely encapsulated between the first and second light emitting layers.
