INTERNAL BALLASTED RODENT BAIT STATION

Bell Laboratories, Inc., ...

1. A ballasted bait station comprising:
a base, having a floor;
a cover hingedly connected to the base and which closes over the base, and is lockable to the base to define an interior volume;
wherein the base has an upwardly extending side wall, portions of which define at least one rodent access opening, wherein
the at least one rodent access opening opens at or just above the floor of the base so that a rodent moving over a support
surface which supports the base of the bait station can readily enter the bait station;

a ballast weight of between 3 and 24 pounds having a corresponding volume positioned within the base and within the interior
volume, and biasing the floor to engage the support surface, the ballast weight having a center of gravity, and substantially
filling the interior volume from the floor up along the side wall to an upper surface of the ballast weight, but so as not
to constrict a path from the at least one rodent access opening to the upper surface;

wherein the center of gravity of the ballast weight is positioned as close to the floor as possible consistent with not constricting
the path from the at least one rodent access opening to the upper surface;

a tray overlying the ballast weight upper surface and retained within the interior volume;
a bait or a rodent trap positioned within the interior volume on the tray, and above the ballast weight; and
wherein the at least one rodent access opening allows a rodent to pass into a portion of the interior volume above the upper
surface, wherein the bait or the rodent trap is positioned on the tray such that a rodent can access the bait or rodent trap.

BAIT STATION WITH PACKAGE RETENTION

BELL LABORATORIES, INC., ...

1. A rodent bait station and sachet bait assembly, the assembly comprising:a sachet bait having a sealed exterior paper package which encloses an interior bait material, the exterior paper package being formed of an aroma-permeable sheet material, and the paper package having a protruding paper flap extending outwardly;
a base having a bottom wall with an upwardly protruding exterior wall having portions defining at least one rodent access opening, and at least one bait compartment base wall which extends upwardly from the base bottom wall, wherein the at least one bait compartment base wall has portions which define a bait compartment for portions of the sachet bait package;
a pin extending upwardly from the bottom wall within the bait compartment, wherein the pin extends through the sachet bait;
a lid connected to the base by a hinge and moveable between a first position which permits direct access to the bait compartment, and a second position in which a top wall overlies the bait compartment, the lid having at least one bait compartment lid wall which is aligned with the at least one bait compartment base wall, the lid being closed on the base in the second position such that the at least one bait compartment lid wall overlies the at least one bait compartment base wall with the sachet bait flap extending therebetween;
portions of the at least one bait compartment base wall which define a multiplicity of upwardly protruding teeth which extend to an uppermost first margin;
portions of the at least one bait compartment lid wall which define a multiplicity of downwardly protruding teeth which extend downwardly below the level of the first margin, wherein in the second position, the downwardly protruding teeth cooperate with the upwardly protruding teeth to frictionally grip a portion of the bait package flap which is wrapped around the base upwardly protruding teeth; and
wherein none of the downwardly protruding teeth or the upwardly protruding teeth penetrate the bait package flap.

INTERNAL BALLASTABLE RODENT BAIT STATION

Bell Laboratories, Inc., ...

1. A bait station which can accommodate an internal ballast weight, the bait station comprising:a base having a floor, and an upwardly extending peripheral wall which extends upwardly from the floor, wherein portions of the peripheral wall define at least one rodent access opening, and wherein portions of the floor extend upwardly from the at least one rodent access opening to form a ramp;
a tray spaced from the floor to define an interior volume between the base floor and the tray which is not accessible to a rodent, wherein the ramp extends from the at least one rodent access opening at least substantially to a height defined by the tray;
wherein the tray is arranged to support bait or a trap on the tray and above the interior volume between the base floor and the tray which is not accessible to a rodent;
wherein the interior volume between the base floor and the tray which is not accessible to a rodent has a volume at least sufficient to contain a weight of at least 7 pounds;
a plurality of tabs arranged along the peripheral wall, the plurality of tabs extending inwardly of the peripheral wall to support the tray spaced from the floor;
a cover having an upper wall and a cover side wall which extends downwardly from the upper wall to engage the peripheral wall, and a plurality of flanges which extend downwardly from the cover side wall to position the tray between the flanges and the tabs; and
a latch arranged between the base and the cover to retain the cover closed over the base.
