a plurality of directors disposed parallel to one another in a lattice, each director having at least one of the plurality of pipes affixed therein and having a channel in which at least a portion of at least one of the plurality of pipes disposes, each director directing fluid expelled from the orifices in at least one of the plurality of pipes toward the adjacent screen.

at least one controllable flow device in fluid communication with the pumped cleaning liquid and the at least one pipe, and configured to create a variable pulsing flow of the pumped cleaning liquid for delivery to the at least one pipe;
a controller controlling the at least one controllable flow device for varying the pulsing of the flow of the pumped cleaning liquid;
connective piping delivering the varying pulsed pumped cleaning liquid from the at least one controllable flow device to the at least one pipe; and
at least one outlet disposed on the at least one pipe and directing the pumped cleaning liquid from the at least one pipe into the interior of the screen intake, so as to produce an agitated or turbulent flow of the pumped cleaning liquid within the interior of the screen intake with the screen intake remaining submerged in the body of water such that the agitated or turbulent flow serves to clear debris collected on the exterior of the screen as the exterior remains exposed to the body of water.

first and second screens respectively disposed on the first and second opposing ends of the central body, each of the first and second screens including slots configured to allow fluid flow from the body of water to an interior of each of the first and second screens, the interior of the first screen communicating with the internal hollow of the central body through the first passage defined by the first opposing end, the interior of the second screen communicating with the internal hollow of the central body through the second passage defined by the second opposing end; and
at least one plate disposed within the central body at a location along the longitudinal axis coincident with the position of the outlet along the longitudinal axis, and dividing the internal hollow into portions, a first portion communicating with the first screen, a second portion communicating with the second screen, the at least one plate adapted to merge fluid flow from the first and second portions such that the merged fluid flow has reduced turbulence as the merged fluid flow is directed to the outlet.
