wherein each launcher of said first and second groups of launchers comprises a pair of sidewalls extending substantially parallel to said convey direction,
wherein each sidewall of said pair of sidewalls of each launcher of said first and second groups of launchers are spaced from each sidewall of said pair of sidewalls of every other launcher of said first and second groups of launchers,
wherein said first and second groups of launchers are staggered relative to one another in said convey direction.

wherein said plurality of articles includes a first article and a second article arranged in said cargo volume such that the first article is oriented top up with the bottom of the first article contacting the lower support structure, the second article is oriented top down with the top of the second article contacting the lower support structure, and the first article overlaps horizontally with the second article.

(d) during at least a portion of said passing, heating said articles in said carrier to provide heated articles, wherein at least a portion of said heating is performed using microwave energy discharged into at least one of said vessels via one or more microwave launchers.

a pouch receiving space is defined between an upward facing surface of said lower support structure and a downward facing surface of said upper support structure,
said downward facing surface presents a series of upper recesses spaced from one another by an upper recess spacing,
said upward facing surface presents a series of lower recesses spaced from one another by a lower recess spacing and said upper recesses, and
each of said lower recesses is configured to receive the base portion of one of said pouches so as to secure the pouch in said pouch receiving space.

(b) passing the loaded carrier through a microwave heating chamber in a direction of travel along a first convey line;
(c) generating microwave energy;
(d) during at least a portion of said passing, discharging at least a portion of the microwave energy into said microwave heating chamber; and
(e) heating said articles using at least a portion of said microwave energy discharged into said microwave heating chamber,
wherein, during said heating, the portion of the foodstuff positioned near said energy control element is heated to a different temperature or at a different heating rate than said portion of said foodstuff would have been heated to or at if said energy control element was not present.
